E.O. Wilson invents Social Evolution…Why NATO laughs in our faces…
The great Harvard biologist E.O. Wilson brought us the science of Sociobiology in the 1970′s, which helped explain altruism in animals. Why would ants sacrifice themselves as workers when they don’t reproduce? Because “eusocial kin selection” has helped them get shared genes into the next generation.
His new theory of social evolution expands that idea beyond the individual to the colony level, which then becomes the fundamental evolutionary unit. You sink or swim as a function of your culture, a relatively rare model adopted by an estimated 2 to 3% of species. OK, so far so good.

Concerned that his positive vision of humanism is being threatened and perhaps eclipsed with a new brand of acerbic atheism, Paul Kurtz has drafted and released just this week a new “Neo-Humanist Statement of Secular Values and Principles.”

A revealing article in Time Magazine highlights the hypocrisy around the “Iran Crisis”, during which Iran has been relentlessly hounded by Western nuclear nations on suspicions that it too is developing nuclear weapons, while NATO countries have been secretly harboring them for decades.
Military spending, nuclear weapons (ours), world government, metrification, 10:1 wage disparity are all subjects that western editors stay clear of.
A standing rapid reaction force, long advocated by former secretary general Kofi Annan, may be the best solution. Not only would it eliminate the need to piece together a last-minute contingent in an emergency, it would no doubt attract bright and ambitious soldiers well-trained for peacekeeping.
These nuclear weapons program expenditures impact every community — from lost opportunities of spending these dollars on other priorities to the constant threat faced by these weapon systems.
